Options in Lapland
Easy to get lost, 3 times bigger than Holland, 80 times less people, you do the math.
Lapland is vast and big. For a Dutchy distances are huge, a two hour drive might get you to the next town or village. Big advantage of that much space is the abundance of nature. In wintertime you can pretty much go anywhere in Lapland, with the appropriate arrangements of course. If you are curious what you could do in Lapland, try Google you will certainly find many things!
To give you a bit of a head start, some things to see, do and visit:
- Nature reserves, in winter a popular place to go cross-counrty skiing. Try:
- Urho Kekkonen national park
- Pallas-Yllas tunturi national park
- Down-hill skiing/Snowboarding:
- Levi, popular ski resort close to Kittilä (has airport)
- Yllas, also popular and also close to Kittilä (has airport)
- Ounasvaara, a beginners slope across the river in Rovaniemi, also features ski-jumping and cool pulkka rides!
- Safaries, too many possibilities, to mention a few:
- Snowmobile safari
- Husky safari
- Reindeer farm excursion
- Arktikum
- Arctic Circle
- Santa park
