Getting to Rovaniemi

Far far away, in the land of Santa......AHUM, it's only 2500km

First of all you will have to get to Rovaniemi, which is located in Finland on the Arctic Circle. You can come by car, train or plane of which the latter is the easiest.

Car

In wintertime, especially in the northern parts of Europe the roads will be kept snow free using bulldozers, no salt will be used. Because of this there always be some ice on the road and carefull driving is a must! If you are planning to come by car please make sure you know what you are up against.
The distance from Holland to Rovaniemi, if you travel by car through Copenhagen, Stockholm and the north of Sweden is about 2500km. A nice ride which could be done in a minimum of 2 to 3 days.

Train

If you are coming by train you will have to get to the north of Sweden where a bus connects to the Finnish railroad system. This journey will also take a few days. We will pick you up from the train station when you get there. Below you will find links to railway companies in the countries you go through. Also package deals like ScanRail or InterRail can be good alternatives.

Airplane

The quickest and probably most comfortable way to get to Rovaniemi is by airplane. Rovaniemi (RVN) has its own airport, located at only 10 minutes drive from the city centre. If we know when you will arrive we will arrange a pickup.
The number of airlines serving Rovaniemi is limited, only Blue 1 and Finnair. Both only fly directly from Helsinki.
Getting to Helsinki from Amsterdam is a bit easier. Listed below are some websites where you can find cheap tickets. Getting to Rovaniemi from Amsterdam at a low price typically costs between €300,- and €400,- of course more expensive options are always available ;)

Combining options

You can use different airliners to get to Rovaniemi or you can for example fly to Helsinki and get a train from there to Rovaniemi. Just keep in mind that these kind of connections don't always work if you plan them too close together, take your time to transfer!
Also you can book single flights with Finnair and Blue 1, it is slightly more expensive but you can for example stay a few days extra in Helsinki or depart from another airport on your way back (if you want to go ski in Levi or Yllas and fly back from Kittilä).
