High up North, on the Arctic Circle, Scouts are having a different way of scouting than in many other countries. In winter, the extreme cold, piles of snow and the abundance of nature gives it a completely different character. Some of the scout gatherings are held in a cottage, far away from any public road in the middle of nowhere. Getting there can only be done by ski or snowmobile. Once you're there, no electricity, no running water, just back to basics. The only luxury you have is a sauna, but for that you'll have to chop wood at -25C and wait a couple of hours for it to warm up.

The Arctic winter challenge is an event planned for Dutch scouts who want to experience the real winter and the Finnish scouting life-style and for Finnish scouts to experience the Dutch (scouting) culture. Both Dutch and Finnish are represented by 10 persons, making a total of 20 Scouts whom will exchange thoughts during 7 days.

The event takes place in and around Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland from the 24th of February 2007 until the 4th of March.
After opening the enlisting we filled up incredibly quickly and we have been making a lot of preparations.

In December both the Finnish and Dutch EU funding requests came back positive, making the event a lot more possible to do.
